Leave of Absence

Students must sometimes interrupt their studies for a variety of reasons (academic, service, hardship or medical). A student may leave the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) by either taking a leave of absence (leaving the school temporarily with the firm and stated intention of returning) or by withdrawing from the school (leaving the school with no intention of returning).  The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing follows the University Leave of Absence policy except for the specific areas outlined below:

  • School of Nursing leaves of absence (LOA) are granted for specific time periods, up to one year.
  • Students may take one leave of absence during their program.

To initiate a Leave of Absence, complete the University Leave Request.
