Leave of Absence
The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing follows the University Leave of Absence Policy except for the specific areas outlined below:
School of Nursing leaves of absence are granted for specific time periods, up to one year. Students may take one leave of absence during their program.
Please be aware that taking a Leave of Absence may affect billing, program funding and/or financial assistance, and visa status. Prior to applying for an LOA, students should discuss financial implications with SEAM, consult with the Office of International Services regarding visa status, and discuss program options with their academic advisor.
If a student fails to enroll in expected coursework without an approved Leave of Absence, the missed enrollment will not be considered an approved Leave of Absence and the time not enrolled will be deemed on Administrative Leave. All Leave of Absence procedures and policies pertain to both required and voluntary Leaves of Absence.
PhD students who are covered under the TRU-UE Local 197 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) may also be eligible for employment-related leaves as outlined in Article 24. These employment leaves do not replace or extend the academic Leave of Absence allowed under University and SON policy. In most cases, an employment leave will coincide with an academic leave, and both processes should be coordinated.
To initiate a Leave of Absence, complete the University Leave Request.
