The part-time Applied Physics program bridges the gap between pure physics and engineering by providing courses and independent study options covering a wide variety of technical and scientific phenomena. Working professionals develop skills appropriate for their careers in technical research or advanced graduate study. One of the program’s strengths is its faculty, who are primarily drawn from the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory and government agencies, and other universities. Faculty interests include condensed matter and materials science, photonics and optics, quantum systems, and earth and space sciences.
