This track prepares the student to practice at an advanced level to provide evidence-based family-centered care to children from birth through adolescence. PNPs prepared in primary care (PC) and acute care (AC) are educationally prepared to care for patients across the entire continuum of health and illness and in a variety of care settings. Certified PNP-AC/PC nurses provide care to healthy and children with complex acute, critical, and life-threatening illnesses and make a difference across a continuum of care settings by providing the highest level of evidence-based acute care, often in the face of rapidly changing patient conditions. PNP-AC/PC certified nurses provide the initial, ongoing, and comprehensive care to patients in a variety of settings including private offices, community clinics, newborn nursery, schools and in specialty-based areas that manage chronically ill patients across the spectrum. PNPs assess, diagnose, and treat critical, acute and chronic illnesses and are responsible and accountable for providing evidenced-based preventative health care, including health promotion, disease prevention, and health education and counseling. It is a program requirement for candidates to have at least one year or more, of Acute-Care inpatient pediatric nursing experience, upon application to the program.
