This track prepares the student to practice at an advanced level to provide patient-centered care to individuals and families across the lifespan (including pediatric through older adult populations) within the context of the community. Family nurse practitioners (FNPs) typically provide comprehensive care to patients in ambulatory and outpatient settings. FNPs provide preventative health care, including health promotion, disease prevention, and health education and counseling. Additionally, they assess, diagnose, and treat acute/episodic and chronic illnesses.
The development of the curriculum is based on:
- National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties' (NONPF) Nurse Practitioner Role Core Competencies (2022)
- American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials: Core Competencies for Professional Nursing Education (2021)
Certification: Graduates are eligible to apply for certification exams through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Certification Program or through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program.
