About Engineering at Johns Hopkins
Engineering has been part of the Johns Hopkins footprint since 1913, and the Whiting School of Engineering is now ranked among the very best schools of its kind in the country. We advance data- and science-driven engineering discovery, innovation, and systems applications to help everyone live longer and healthier lives and empower communities and society to thrive even in extreme environments. Faculty contributions in areas including environmental engineering, biomedical engineering, robotics, speech and language processing, and materials are numerous and profound. Our exceptional faculty are dedicated to advancing engineering practice and improving society through their research and teaching in myriad engineering and applied science areas. We seek to advance our fields by providing an empowering engineering education that is ethically aware, respectful, and humane – a commitment to educating engineers who are prepared to understand human needs that drive technical solutions and the context in which engineering solutions are deployed.
The Whiting School offers 10 ABET-accredited programs in engineering leading to the Bachelor of Science degree: biomedical engineering, chemical and biomolecular engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, engineering mechanics, environmental engineering, materials science and engineering, and mechanical engineering. The school also offers a B.S. degree in applied mathematics & statistics as well as a B.A. degree in general engineering. Since the 2022-2023 academic year, the school has also offered a Bachelor of Science degree in Systems Engineering which will seek ABET accreditation when it is eligible to do so.
Our commitment to discovery, innovation and research yields outstanding programs that lead to master's and doctoral degrees. In the descriptions that follow, each department lists its faculty and their research, research facilities, graduate programs, and the elementary and advanced courses they offer. More details can be obtained from the departmental websites, through the Whiting School homepage at http://engineering.jhu.edu.
